Working Holiday Maker Visa – Subclass 417

Purpose

The Working Holiday Maker Visa program encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between arrangement countries by allowing young people to have an extended holiday, supplemented by short-term employment.

Requirements

This visa is designed for people aged between 18 and 30 from arrangement countries who are interested in a working holiday of up to 12 months in Australia. Some of these countries include Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

Working Holiday Maker applicants must have turned 18, but not turned 31, at the time of visa application. This visa allows you to supplement the cost of your holiday through short-term employment.

Working Holiday Maker applicants must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. You may be asked to provide evidence such as a banks statement and an air ticket out of Australia.

Working Holiday Maker Visa applicants are not covered by Australia’s national health scheme unless there is a reciprocal health care agreement between Australia and your country. Second Working Holiday Visa

People who have worked in a specified industry in regional Australia for a minimum of three months (88 days) while on their first Working Holiday Maker Visa, may be eligible to apply for a Working Holiday Maker Visa.

To be eligible for a second Working Holiday Maker Visa, you must meet a number of requirements. You may apply either while you still hold a first Working Holiday Maker Visa a or at a later date.

You must:

  • Have completed three months of specified work in regional Australia please refer: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/specified-work.htm
  • While on your first Working Holiday Maker Visa (there is no requirement to do further specified work on the second visa)
  • Be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of applying
  • Be applying no more than 12 months before you intend to travel to Australia, if applying from outside Australia
  • Will not be accompanied by dependent children at any time during your stay in Australia

Visa

If you are granted this visa you can:

  • Enter Australia within 12 months of grant
  • Stay up to 12 months
  • Leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid
  • Work in Australia for up to 6 months with each employer
  • Study for up to 4 months.

If you hold a second Working Holiday Marker visa, you may return to work for a further 6 months for an employer with whom you worked on your first Working Holiday Maker visa.
