In Australia, salary or wages and government benefits are mostly paid directly into a bank account.

When you arrive in Australia, you should open a bank account within 6 weeks of arriving. To open an account, you’ll need to bring your passport along for identification. (Should you open a bank account 6 weeks after arriving, you’ll need extra identification).
